Hi,
My name is Alex. I am a Junior at Hofstra University. I am an Education Major Co-major English. The reason why I want to become a teacher is because not only do I like kids, but I find them interesting. Spending even a few hours with them you learn so much about how they think and how they perceive the world. One day I hope to be teaching 2nd Grade. Seven/Eight year old's are at the age where they aren't too young to form their own opinions about certain things and aren't too old to still be able to act as a child should.
Children to me are the most interesting people because they have the capacity to absorb anything that is shown to them. Their brains are like sponges taking in everything that they see, hear, observe. Anything that they do not know and find interesting will most likely be embedded into their heads. They have ways to remember things that many adults do not acquire. Kids have the ability to learn in many different ways. However, children love music, and having fun, and learning interesting things. By incorporating things that they love into lesson plans not only will the classroom want to learn more but their attention would be fully on the lesson and not on what is going on outside the window.
Hopefully, one day in the future, my classroom will be an enjoyable place for these kids to come and learn. Not by using only textbooks, workbooks, and other boring stuff that in the end would cause a child to not listen, act out, or just ignore. I will use music and art to make things interesting. I would like to be the kind of teacher that is fun and well-liked yet, respected and admired.
